Le Chiaje Mare is the guest cottage of a large Sorrento property, situated in a private estate of lemon groves and vineyards a few meters above the sea at Marina della Lobra, the beautiful little harbour of Massa Lubrense, surrounded by an ancient fishing and mariner village.

This area has been identified as one of the first Greek settlements of the Sorrento Peninsula. During the time of the Roman Empire, it was the site of a magnificent maritime villa, built in the age of Emperor Nero. Archaeological excavations next to the cottage have revealed the largest nympheum of Roman Age ever found; its mosaics are now on display at Villa Fondi in Piano di Sorrento.

Le Chiaje Mare has car access from a remote-controlled gate, the private road runs across the owners’ vineyard and lemon groves for approx. 300m and leads directly to the cottage. Private access from and to the seaside, through iron gates, is also available.

On the seaside there is a walking track along rocks; there is no beach, but a natural pool enclosure with sandy bottom provides easy access to the sea and is surrounded by flat rocky areas for sunbathing.

The path quickly leads to Marina della Lobra, a charming little hamlet which boasts three excellent restaurants, a wine and cocktail bar, and simple local shopping. Also – most importantly – there are privately-owned rental boats, to bring you to Capri and Positano. The views across the water are breathtaking. They encompass a panoramic view of the Bay of Naples, featuring Mount Vesuvius and the Islands of Ischia and Procida. Capri peeks from behind the hill to complete the picture, giving a glimpse of th Gulf.

A large gravel terrace just outside the house provides ample space for children to play, or just for lounging in the sun and eating al fresco. Another terrace is available across the driveway, which hangs directly above the sea. A third paved terrace, over the driveway and below the house is available to the guests and is also used by owners when they come to visit their guests!

The cottage is bright and airy, enjoys seaviews and breeze. Entrance is from driveway through side corridor into:

• Living room with dining and sitting areas, opening to terrace, tiled with lovely Vietri majolica.
• Bathroom with shower.

Additional entrance from back of house into corridor leading to:

• Large modern live-in kitchen with window to front garden, fully equipped with fridge/freezer and dishwasher
• Bathroom with tub
• Twin bedroom— beds can be joined— opening to terrace with seaviews
• Similar bedroom opening to same terrace.

Services: English speaking manager on call.• Maid service: Two hours, twice weekly and Saturday changeover day. There is a fee for this service. Extra hours on request on confirmation of booking, payable locally. Extra maid service available.
Distances: 8 km by car to Sorrento (further facilities, hospital, hydrofoil to Naples, Positano, Amalfi Capri) 20 km to Positano • 30 km to Amalfi • 35 km to Ravello • 40 km to Pompeii • 700 m to the center of Massalubrense • 200 m on foot to Marina della Lobra bar, three restaurants, boat hire.
