“We're vacationing on the Italian Riviera.” Is there an announcement more glamourous?

So come with us on an exciting visit to the pearl of Western Italy: San Remo and the Ligurian Coast. With its Liberty Casino, lovely beaches, world class cuisine and classy boutiques this area of Italy is sure to cast a spell on all who visit.

San Remo, a small city with Roman origins, has long been a favourite with Italians and tourists alike, thanks to an exceptionally mild climate; broad, sandy beaches; and music festivals. Its gardens and parks are legendary, lush with flowers and palms. Writer Tobias Smollett was struck by the beauty: “...the hills are covered with oranges, lemons, pomegranates and olives....”

Stroll through the delightful medieval village of La Pigna with its narrow lanes or challenge your Italian as you barter with the grocers of the market at Piazza Eroi Sanremesi.

Visit the nearby coastal towns of Bordighera, Ventimiglia and Imperia, or plan a day trip to the French Riviera, to watch the waves crash against the rugged coast, or cruise to Genova, the Italian Riviera's largest city, made wealthy by its centuries as a sea-faring nation. Or venture inland to the mountain towns of Aquadolce and Colderiao, winding through the hilly, narrow streets, stopping enroute to savor the strong local wine and roasted meats. Or, most luxurious of all, simply relax on the beach with a drink and a book, and watch the jet set strut. And the waters off San Remo teem with marine life of all sorts and are a veritable paradise for scuba divers.

Indeed, the sports enthusiast simply cannot be diappointed here. Tennis courts, warm, sandy beaches, a sailing school, and cycling, fishing, wind-surfing, water skiing, mountain biking and horseback riding opportunities can all be found within a five- to 10-mile radius. San Remo is the end point for the annual UCI ProTour Milan-Sanremo cycling race, one of the five Monuments of the cycling season.

The splendid Golf degli Ulivi, an 18-hole golf course overlooking the sea, was built sixty years ago to provide tourists a green area within the olive groves. And although it's open all year thanks to the Riviera's everlasting sunshine, the course reveals its British origins: the green of the ninth hole is, in fact, the furthest point from the club house.

But really, do we have to convince you? It's the Italian Riviera! Who can refuse?
